The Government announces new Smart Export Guarantee
In December we brought you the announcement confirming that the Feed-In-Tariff and Export Tariff will end as of the 31st March 2019. Last week the Government announced a new ‘Smart Export Guarantee‘ for new solar customers.
The new ‘Smart Export Guarantee’ would see households with solar panels earn money from suppliers for any power that’s not used, and so is exported back to the grid. However, the Government has not indicated any timescale for when this new scheme will launch as the guarantee is currently in consultation. Meaning those that install solar panels after the 31st March won’t be paid for exporting electricity for a time – as it’s likely the new scheme won’t be up and running by then.
New Solar Customers
A previously stated if you are considering a solar panel installation and wish to take advantage of the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT), we would urge you to act sooner rather than later to ensure your paperwork and install can be completed before the March 31st deadline. After this date, you will unfortunately not be able to benefit from the FIT.
Existing Solar Customers
If you already have solar panels installed and are signed up to the FIT scheme, don’t worry. You are locked in and your payments won’t be affected.
We’ll be in touch with further information as and when it is available.
