A ban on gas by 2025 to address climate change concerns was part of the chancellor’s standards for delivering lower carbon emissions as well as lowering fuel bills.
The ban on gas boilers is only for new builds so replacing central heating systems in older properties will still be possible and gas hobs will still be allowed.
The government wants new homes to be leading the way in terms of energy efficiency so homes will be kept warm with heat pumps and world-leading insulation standards. Environmental groups responded positively to the news but insist more ambition is needed to get to grips with the climate emergency.
