What you need to be asking when hiring an electrician
Norcroft can help take the stress out of hiring an electrician. Today we look at some key points that you should consider when hiring an electrician.
Proof of Registration is key
You should check that any electrician you hire is registered with an accreditation body such as the NICEIC. Ensuring the electrician that you hire is registered also ensures that they’re regulated by the UK Government, they work to the BS7671 safety standard, their work is regularly checked and assessed, they’re insured should anything go wrong, and they’re qualified to carry out the electrical work required.
Good electricians will openly present their registration paperwork, should you wish to see it. So, don’t feel embarrassed to ask to see proof of your electrician’s qualifications and registration. You also have the option of checking an electrician’s paperwork online or over the phone via the Registered Competent Person service.
Feedback, references and testimonials
We live in a world of review sites, and the world of electricians is no different. Ask for current references from the electrician you are thinking of hiring. Discuss the work carried out and how pleased their previous clients were with the work, the attitude, price and any other details you require before making your decision.

There is no need to rush
When hiring an electrician or any trades person for that matter, there really is no need to rush. Don’t feel pressured in to making a decision, the person you hire will be coming in to your home or business, so you need to feel comfortable rather than pressured when deciding who to hire.
