Petrol and diesel car sales ban brought forward to 2035
A ban on selling new petrol, diesel or hybrid cars in the UK will be brought forward from 2040 to 2035 at the latest. The government’s plans have changed after experts said 2040 would be too late for the UK to meet net zero-carbon ambitions by 2050. Once the ban comes into effect, the only cars and vans available to buy will be electric or hydrogen.
The policy will be further outlined in November at the United Nations climate summit, an opportunity to assess the progress on tackling climate change.
It’s fantastic to see the UK taking a step forward into the electric car revolution and it will be interesting to see how the government adapts to the challenges accelerating this target will bring.
