Philip’s product of the month – PIR and Microwave Sensors for Energy Efficient Lighting
Ever feel like you’ve been left in the dark? Why not consider energy efficient lighting to lead your way?
In today’s blog we’ll explore how automatic lighting can improve energy efficiency within your home or commercial environment.
PIR or a Passive Infrared sensor is an electronic sensor that measures infrared light radiating from objects within its field of view. When a body, animal or human passes by in the sensors field of view the levels of infrared detected will change causing the desired reaction. In this case a light to be switched on.
Microwave sensors work by releasing microwave signals and measuring the time taken for the signal to be reflected back to the sensor. When the signal is disrupted, the time taken for the microwave signal to reach the sensor changes resulting in the desired reaction, in today’s case the lights to be switched on in a room or externally.
Microwave sensors, in contrast to PIR can detect motion through walls enabling you to install less sensors.
External PIR and Microwave lighting is commonplace and often installed as a security feature on both domestic and commercial properties, especially those that are in isolated areas. However, you can also install sensor lighting internally as an energy efficient safety feature.
PIR and Microwave lighting can also help to save on your electricity bills. Do you family often leave the lights on upstairs? Do your kids make your house look like Blackpool Illuminations? Sensor lighting, whether you choose PIR or Microwave will ensure your lights are turned off when they are no longer needed, helping to improve energy efficiency, potentially reducing your electricity bills and the amount of times you need to ask for the lights to be switched off!
How often do you get up in the middle of the night to get a drink or to visit the bathroom? As you’re half asleep do you trip and fumble around for the light switch? A PIR or Microwave sensor lighting system will detect your motion and automatically light up your bathroom making it safer for you and your family.
Philip Mosley, Norcroft Energy’s Managing Director and experienced Electrician, shares his thoughts on how PIR and Microwave lighting is not only improving security but also energy efficiency at home and at work.
“We are installing more and more automatic lighting systems, not only for security purposes but also as an energy efficient way to light up customer’s homes and businesses. The systems can be fitted to a range of lighting options, including industrial fittings for your commercial property or decorative fittings for inside the home or displays in your garden. Improved security is an obvious bonus of installing a sensor lighting system, however internal motion sensor lighting can add peace of mind and improve the home environment for the young and old alike.”
